Today is Valentines’s Day.  And as much as it’s about celebrating and honouring our relationships, let’s not forget about our most important relationship: the one we have with ourselves.

Treat yourself at least as well as you would someone you love for if you cannot love yourself, you cannot fully love another.  (This has been said by a number of well known people including the Dalai Lama, Fred Rogers and RuPaul…).  But it makes sense.  The things we don’t love (or even like) about ourselves we project onto others; we see and are annoyed/irked/angered by those things in others because we don’t love it in ourselves.

It doesn’t take much to show ourselves a little love.  On this Valentines’s Day here are…

Ten Teeny Tiny Things We Can Do for Self-Love.

1. Drink a glass of water while reading this…go now and pour it and come back…

2. Clip your finger and toe nails. Notice how refreshed you feel afterwards from such a simple thing.

3. Take 3 deep breaths.  Inhale through the nose right down to the belly, let you ribs expand and chest life; slowly reverse it as you exhale out.

4. Stand up and stretch up to the sky and then down to the floor. Stand up and lean to one side reaching to the floor and then the other.  Notice how your spine says a little “thank you”.

5. Close your eyes for 1 minute (feel free to put drops in before you do this to soothe dry tired eyes)

6. Write down 3 things you are grateful for and why.

7. Turn your head to look over your right shoulder, then the left, then tilt the chin up to the ceiling, then tip your right ear towards your right shoulder and finally tip your left ear towards your left shoulder.  Repeat as needed throughout your day.

8. Eat an apple.

9. Stare out your window for 3 minutes…just sit and look around.

10. Give yourself a jaw massage (you can use your fingers or a tennis ball for this).
